Sinners and SaintsDiscussionWhile watching that hoary old show "Touched by an Angel" with my grandmother, I thought suddenly about how amazing a conceit this was -- that there were angels walking amongst us as if men. As far as I know, there's nothing in the Bible to support such an assertion, but that never stops people from believing in such things. The first three lines and the general tune started running through my mind at that time.I was driving fifty miles to work, then another fifty miles back, between Castor LA and Shreveport LA. Around that time a popular Little League coach was accused of molesting some of the boys he coached. The paper convicted him in print long before he appeared in court. But one quote stuck with me. One of his former team members, long grown up, was quoted as saying in anguish something along the lines of "I don't understand. He was like a father to me after my parents divorced. He helped me get through the bad times. How could he do something like this?". The song wrote itself during my next trip home, as I sang it at the top of my lungs to hear myself over the rattling of my old pickup truck. LyricsSinners and SaintsCopyright 1997 Eric Lee Green
Sinners and saints and angels above
well when I was young and cryin' in pain
Sinner or saint or angel of love
well long years have passed
You were the father that I never had
Sinners and saints and angels above
