Mikey's Dream

Discussion

This was the first song that I wrote. It shows. The song as originally written and recorded was two notes a-d-a-d-a-d repeated incessantly, and was as mindlessly repetitive as "Where have all the Flowers Gone" (which I modelled it after, but I wasn't smart enough to figure out how to make the changing pattern). For this recording I've jazzed up the tune part considerably, but the lyrics remain, well, they need re-organizing.

Mikey was real, but now is dead. But then again, all children die, eventually, and become adults.

Mikey's Dream

Copyright 1995 Eric Lee Green

Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
He dreamed he had a good home
and enough to eat at night
Mikey had a dream last night

Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
He dreamed he went to school
and they told him he was good
Mikey had a dream last night

Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
He dreamed he had a puppy
with brown eyes and with soft fur
Mikey had a dream last night

Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
He dreamed his mother didn't
drink too much and beat him up
Mikey had a dream last night

Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
He dreamed he made eleven years
without a bullet 'tween the ears
Mikey had a dream last night
he dreamed he grew up and became a man
Oh Mikey's just another kid
in the USA tonight

Mikey had a dream last night
Dreaming of a better world
a chance to grow and play
And one day soon you'll see him
with his gun in his hand
as he shoots someone between the eyes
and wishes you were dead
but that is not tonight because
he's sleeping in his bed

And
Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
though no seemed to see
or seemed to believe
Mikey had a dream last night
Mikey had a dream last night
